Our Story

In the summer of 2007, as a young family of four filled with motivation and idealism, we moved to Wilmington, NC to establish a Chabad House. Our move was inspired by the vision of the Lubavitcher Rebbe: to connect with every single Jew, regardless of knowledge, background, or affiliation. Our goal was to serve the needs of the Jewish community in Southeastern NC. We quickly discovered that we had arrived in a beautiful place—blessed with a warm community, stunning beaches, a vibrant downtown, and a growing region full of promise. The future of Jewish life here looked bright indeed. Very soon, it became clear that the community needed a central Jewish center—a home where all the needs of a growing Jewish community could be met. The seeds of the project were planted, the vision took shape, and the concept of a Jewish Community Center was born. What we present to you now is more than just a center; it is a spiritual oasis from the hustle and bustle of life, a place of warmth, friendship, and community. Our goal is to create a peaceful, uplifting space for all.

Bringing Heaven Down to Earth

When G-d gave the Jewish people the Ten Commandments on Mt. Sinai, He empowered us with a special mission: to bring G-dliness into this world. Every Mitzvah we do makes the world a better, more refined and holier place. When we light Shabbos candles, lay Tefillin, eat Matzah at the Seder, hear the Shofar on Rosh Hashana, we thereby do something holy with a physical object, thus spiritually elevating it and our surroundings.

The Wilmington Jewish Community Center will thus be a heavenly place, where we can connect, learn, inspire, and grow. It will be a place for all segments of the Jewish community, from young children to teenagers to young adults to parents and beyond. A place where you will be able to nourish your body, mind, and spirit.

We’d like to invite you to join us on this exciting journey. This special project can only happen with the support of generous donors like you. We look forward to opening the doors of this new center to you and your loved ones and welcoming everyone to this heavenly place!

Warmly,
Rabbi Moshe Y. & Chana Lieblich and Family
